A Portrait of an independent artist

Saga Bloom could be described as the epitome of an independent artist. In a world where people are blindly running after trends Saga has remained faithful to her own vision. Instead of following the latest hypes in the music industry she is determined to make music simply for her own liking. This persistence has created a unique combination of pop melodies, contemporary electro beats, national folk chants and poetry. Her recently released debut album “Enlightenment” portrays the best of Saga’s work which is a production from her own indie record label Deluxe Recordings.

Since moving to Amsterdam in 1999 this Northern-European artist has became an award-winning singer/songwriter, a confident performer in Amsterdam’s finest club venues, a professional in studio productions and a business analyst who took her passion for music one step further by starting up her own record label. Having worked as a session singer ever since 16 years of age in her native Finland Saga begun to write songs seriously after her move to Holland. An audition to WaterlandMusic brought her meet producer Joachim Vermeulen Windsant and the advertisement “singer wanted” turned into a collaboration which is still thriving today. With their productions Saga has performed frequently in Amsterdam (Supper Club, the Mansion) and taken part to several vocal contests always positioning within the Top10 (Diesel-U-music, Vocalisten NL). Finally in 2005 Saga’s song “Love does not equal success” got her to win a MMM-award and was proof not only of her vocal skills, but also lyrical and melody composition talent.

In October 2006 Saga released her debut single “Like a Queen” under the affiliate Saga Deluxe. This energetic electro track portrayed Saga as a Barbarella-like-space traveller in the music video and its humorous vibe gained popularity to Saga not only locally, but across Europe as well. After successful promotional campaigns in UK and Germany Saga took some time off and finally in April 2008 released her full play debut album “Enlightenment”. The album speaks about Saga’s journey into finding enlightenment through music. Through hard times and happy moments music has been the thin red line in her life to keep it all together and having such ultimate comfort feels like spiritual enlightenment.

The first single relase from Enlightenment introduced "Fly Away", a mystical electro-pop track. The music video was shot in the majestic Alps in Switzerland portraying the feel of the lyrics that describe emotions of feeling lost from which you can "fly away" by means of music. The hook Saga sings comes from her native Finland, a part of a traditional song from the Lapland region. As an added bonus Saga released Fly Away as an extended EP with new remixes from DJ Chew Fu PhaT and Joa-G from Future Presidents.

Following the same ethnical feel in her tracks Saga composed "Love like This" which was her entry song to the Finnish Eurovision Contest of 2010. Making great success in the pre rounds the song ended up as the publics favorite. Although not making it to the semifinals, it gained several new fans accross the Europe and Saga decided to release Love like This as a single with a brand new remix created by talented Dj Manuel Torres, one of her many production partners.

All of Saga's tracks - singles and album releases can be seen as a portfolio of her working methods; being the executive producer who collaborates cross boarders and picks up the best of productions. More collaborations with MC’s in local Amsterdam and DJ’s from US are currently under progress and Saga is finalizing her second album, planning for a 2010 release. The main catalyst in her life is passion for music and she thinks money should never be the initiate into creating it. Having said so, this adamant label CEO and a devoted singer-songwriter will never seize to make music, no matter the size of the success.
